The Rundown: An unsanctioned nuclear test will have dangerous consequences for civilians at a local diner.

In the Nevada desert in 1962, General McCoy has a plan. A plan to conduct an experiment on his own soldiers as they wait for fallout from an upcoming atomic bomb test. As the test completes, the men are ordered to enter the fallout area along with Private Fallows who is reluctant to enter the area and questions the order to do so.

When the other soldiers begin to experience strange symptoms, Fallows finds himself fighting against the others and barely escaping. Coming upon Old Joe’s diner, Fallows has only moments to warn the diners that something dangerous is coming before that danger finally arrives.

The Story: Condon crafts a dark, thrilling and intense story in this first issue. The pace and action of the story are fantastic and I felt every moment of terror as circumstances and moments unfold. There is a wonderfully cinematic quality to the story and it brings the terror and drama to a great cliffhanger ending that makes me excited to see what comes next.

The Art: The art from Jeffrey Alan Love is beautifully minimalist in nature. It perfectly captures atmosphere, tone and mood through the use of shadow and composition.
