The live action adaptation of one of Neil Gaiman’s best loved literary creations The Sandman is coming and Netflix has announced the first seven members of the cast including who will be playing Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming.

Tom Sturridge will play the lead role of Morpheus, Lord of the Dreaming. Sturridge is known for films like Far from A Maddening Crowd, Vanity Fair and Velvet Buzzsaw.

Gwendoline Christie will play Lucifer, ruler of Hell. Christie is known for her roles in the Star Wars films as well as Game of Thrones and the upcoming film Our Friend.

Vivienne Acheampong is taking on the role of Lucienne, Librarian of the Dreaming. Acheampong is known for series like Death in Paradise and recently starred in the remake of Roald Dahl’s The Witches starring Anne Hathaway.

Charles Dance is playing Roderick Burgess, an occultist and magician who traps Morpheus on the physical plane. Dance is known for his roles in series like Game of Thrones and The Crown as well as films like Godzilla: King of the Monsters and the recently released Mank.

Boyd Holbrook will play The Corinthian, a recently escaped nightmare and serial killer. Holbrook is known for his roles in films like Logan and The Predator as well as series like Narcos.

Asim Chaudhry will play Abel, the first victim and citizen of the Dreaming. Chaudhry is known for his roles in films like Eaten by Lions, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and Wonder Woman 1984.

Sanjeev Bhaskar plays Cain, the first predator and citizen of the Dreaming. Bhaskar is known for his roles in series like The Indian Doctor and Unforgotten as well as films like Paddington 2 and Yesterday.

Gaiman released a statement about the series saying; “I can’t wait until the people out there get to see what we’ve been seeing as Dream and the rest of them take flesh, and the flesh belongs to some of the finest actors out there.”

Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman, Grey’s Anatomy) will serve as showrunner and executive producer alongside Gaiman and David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Terminator: Dark Fate, Foundation). Gaiman, Goyer and Heinberg are also co-writers on the project.
