The Rundown: A new mystery will bring a federal agent back into the heart of darkness.

In Portland Oregon, three friends are having a good time at a bar discussing their favorite serial killers. Unbeknownst to them, Alice, the daughter of the notorious killer dubbed the Nailbiter, overhears the conversation and proceeds to step in to put the women in their place. Things go from bad to worse when Alice is confronted by the relative of one of her father’s victims and she returns home to find that her mother is missing and a bloody mess in her home.

When NSA agent Finch is called in to a case in Oregon, he suspects that there is a connection to the local town of Buckaroo and its history of producing serial killers. When he finds Alice nearby and she confronts him about her suspicions about her mother’s disappearance, he is forced to reveal a devastating truth to the young woman.

The Story: Williamson sets the stage for an intriguing and dark story in this first issue. The characters are interesting from the start and the premise is engaging. There are some great moments throughout and the mystery being crafted from the first few pages draws in the reader with the promise of something entertaining and thrilling to come. Both the first few pages and the ending are pitch perfect in their darkness and danger.

The Art: Mike Henderson does some impressive work with the visuals in this issue. Henderson brings the reader in with the first images and doesn’t shy away from the violence. The panels are intimate and beautifully detailed. A great looking issue.
