The 90’s brought a proliferation of mutants into the Marvel Universe after Chris Claremont’s run on Uncanny X-Men. The ever-growing roster of mutant heroes were broken up into two color-coded strike teams.

The aftermath of Inhumans vs X-Men will bring in a new beginning for the remaining mutants. According to Marvel Editor Daniel Ketchum, “Following an era where the X-Men were on the back foot, fighting for the survival of their species, we wanted to take a moment to exhale and indulge in the kinds of big, beautiful, colorful stories that portray the X-Men at their best.” In regards to the tone of these new series, he says  “It’s a return to form, with spandex costumes rather than body armor, softball games on the school lawn, and the X-Men on a proactive mission to be the greatest heroes of all time—to human and mutant alike.”

The new series will see the teams split into two again. Starting with X-Men Gold #1. This team, led by a returned Kitty Pride, will feature Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Old Man Logan and Rachel Grey and will see this veteran team fight to secure their legacy and protect their future. X-Men Gold #1 will be helmed by Marc Guggenheim (X-Men, Young X-Men) and Ardian Syaf (Green Lantern).

X-Men Blue #1 will be in the hands of creators Cullen Bunn (Uncanny X-Men) and Jorge Molina (Star Wars). This team will feature the original time-displaced X-Men team led by Jean Grey. She will be joined by Cyclops, Beast, Iceman, and Angel. The team will do their best to continue to fulfill Xavier’s dream with the help of former mutant terrorist Magneto.
