Marvel’s Avengers

Square Enix

XBOX One

Marvel’s Avengers is an epic, third-person, action-adventure game that combines an original, cinematic story with single-player and co-operative gameplay*. Assemble into a team of up to four players online, master extraordinary abilities, customize a growing roster of Heroes, and defend the Earth from escalating threats.

Graphics

The game is brilliantly cinematic both in its cutscenes and gameplay. The transitions work really well visually. The XBOX One unfortunately does not have the power to make those transitions seamlessly and there are moments throughout the game where you can see shadowing issues and texture issues with character hair. Beyond those issues, the graphics are fantastic and the characters look amazing. There was a lot of care given to the look of this game and its expansive look and that keeps the player both invested in the game and marveling at its look.

Gameplay

The first stage of Marvel’s Avengers gives the player the ability to play as each Avenger and utilize their unique power sets. It teases the player with what you will have to learn over the course of the game when you begin to play as the characters throughout multiple missions. The fights are varied and fun and the game relies on the player to improvise and use special moves to take out waves of enemies. Having another character on hand to share in the fight helps as well and the environments are varied and fun. If there is one huge disadvantage it is that the load time between missions is too long.

Replayability

The story in the game is engaging and so are the characters. With DLC promising an expanded story with more characters, the game is definitely worth playing past the story. The co-op multiplayer is incredibly fun as well and I can’t wait to dive back into the game and play it again.
