At a rally in Central Park, En Sabah Nur is having a rally to tell the gathered mutants that there is nothing wrong with love. There is nothing wrong with affection. There is nothing wrong with the connections that bring people together.

As members of the crowd connect to and listen to the words coming from the charismatic leader as well as the forbidden act of spending time with and showing affection to his son, the X-Men watch the crowd and do not know what to do about the situation. The crowd starts to question their world and in a fit of frustration, they decide to tear down one of the symbols of their oppression.

The scenes of violence have an unwanted effect on the gathered X-Men. They immediately flash back to moments from their previous lives including a battle between Storm and Magneto as well as Logan fighting alongside X-23. When she comes out of her daydream, she attacks a member of the crowd. The X-Men then have to go on the defensive to protect themselves without hurting the crowd. At their base, the X-Men assess the threat En Sabah Nur and his followers before Jean and Nate go speak to the X-Tremists.

Colossus has another problem. As passionate as he is about taking down the threat that the X-Tracts pose, he finds himself conflicted after seeing Kitty Pryde and the feelings that seeing her bring up in him. The cracks in the façade grow deeper when Magneto sees a vision of events from his past that he doesn’t remember and those visions are witnessed by someone else.

Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler have written an interesting issue. Seeing the cracks in Nate’s world get bigger figuratively and literally is interesting and the relationship history between the characters is showcased in interesting and entertaining ways.

Marco Failla’s art is fantastic. I loved all of the richly detailed panels and the change in art style between what’s happening in real time and in the memories.
