The Rundown: Krakoa is open and welcome to all mutants. All mutants except Kitty Pryde. In order to serve the growing mutant community, Kitty will have to find another way to the island.

Unable to enter the gates of Krakoa, Kitty Pryde finds the only way she can to get there, by boat. Making her way to the island also serves as a great excuse for her friends to hit her up for deliveries as well as Emma Frost to make her an interesting and potentially lucrative offer.

Giving Kitty command of her own boat, Emma gives her the opportunity to captain it as she sees fit. When she gets news of a gate in Russia being guarded to prevent Russian mutants from leaving, she and a small band of X-Men and Pyro make their way to the country and confront the Russian forces in order to re-open the gate.

The Story: A fun, light story that reminds X-Men fans that the characters can be fun and entertaining without the melodrama. Giving Iceman the ability to quip reminds the reader that humor is part of this story as well. Everything in the X-Men world has changed dramatically and this story gives a new mission and purpose to Kitty and the other mutants in her crew. I really enjoyed both the reason for their being and the way this first issue played out. It will be interesting to see where it goes from here.

The Art: Metteo Lolli’s art is the perfect complement to the style and tone of this issue.
