The Rundown: The team has been split up and have spent the last two weeks moving from world to world collecting the pieces of tech Brainiac disbursed all over the Ghost Sector. Facing tough opposition at every turn, Jessica is running low on power for her ring and has had to improvise to stay in the fight. Victor is dealing with the escalating power of the enemies they face and both of them are worried about the influence Darkseid could have over Starfire and Azrael as the two flex their newfound powers across the sector.

As the four of them continue to collect the relics, their plan to wait for Darkseid to assemble the device and then betray him comes into question as Jessica and Victor wonder if the new powers given to their teammates will make them loyal to the lord of Apokolips and doom the Ghost Sector itself.

The Story: Dan Abnett increases the tension in this issue. Having the characters question each other’s motives and actions as they work together for the greater good adds some interesting and layered drama to the story. Plot wise I wish the pace was increased. I like the personal drama, but the Darkseid aspect of their mission is more engaging than their self-doubt an squabbling. Given the events the issue ends on, I continue to be curious about where it goes next.

The Art: Daniel Sampere has some subtle and impressive art in this issue. There are some great compositional shots and the characters look great.
