The attacks by the Otherkind have driven magic users deeper underground and it’s still not enough.
Diana and Zatanna have tracked down Felix Faust, but the Otherkind have gotten to him first. His mind broken, Zatanna, risks the use of magic to stitch him back together enough to get answers. The answer she gets leads her to seek out Papa Midnite. When the pair witness the horror the Otherkind unleash on Midnite’s place, the injured owner leaves them with an ominous warning before he goes on the run.
At the Oblivion Bar, every magical refugee that can run has found a safe harbor, but Bobo and Traci 13 find themselves overwhelmed by the crowd. When Etrigan and Swamp Thing go at it, their fight showcases a problem with all that magic gathered in one place. When the Otherkind invade, Bobo has no choice but to transfer all the remaining magic users to somewhere else. Unfortunately, they’ve gone from the frying pan to the fire.
As the Otherkind attacks the bar, Man-Bat makes his first forays into magic with unexpected results.
James Tynion IV is ramping up the thrills and the terror in this issue. The dialogue and plot move at a pace that draws in the reader as the story gets darker from all sides. I continue to be interested in all of the twists and turns that this story takes. All three stories in this issue are well done and flow together brilliantly to a cliffhanger that looks amazing.
The art by Alvaro Martinez Bueno is beautiful, dark and detailed. It conveys so much emotion and darkness. It perfectly matches the tone of this story.
