For everyone wondering what the Warner Brothers/Discovery merger would mean for DC Films, there’s finally an answer.

According to multiple sources, Director James Gunn and Producer Peter Safran have been announced as the new Co-CEO’s of DC Studios following the departure of Walter Hamada.

The duo will report to Warner Brothers/Discovery Chief David Zaslav and will oversee all film, television and animated projects for the studio. According to reports, Gunn will focus on the creative side while Safran will focus on business and production.

Zaslav released a statement saying; “DC has among the most entertaining, powerful, and iconic characters in the world and I am thrilled to have the singular and complementary talents of James and Peter joining our world-class team and overseeing the creative direction of the storied DC Universe,” said Zaslav. “Their decades of experience in filmmaking, close ties to the creative community, and proven track record thrilling superhero fans around the globe make them uniquely qualified to develop a long-term strategy across film, TV, and animation, and take this iconic franchise to the next level of creative storytelling.”

James Gunn is known for writing and directing the Guardians of the Galaxy films for Marvel Studios and directed the popular The Suicide Squad reboot for DC before spinning off the character Peacemaker into his own series on HBO Max which he wrote and directed several episodes of. Before taking his new role at DC Studios, he has the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming to Disney Plus before Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 which he also wrote and directed.

Peter Safran has worked with Gunn before and has been a producer on films like Annabelle and The Conjuring before producing previous DC Studios films including Aquaman, Shazam and their upcoming sequels.
