All over the world and across the solar system, mutants are planting the seeds of their liberation both literally and figuratively. When those seeds grow, humanity is forced to take notice. A group of Ambassadors from around the world are brought in to learn about the new mutant utopia known as  Krakoa. While the Ambassadors are shown around by their host Magneto, he reiterates the offer being made to humanity. One that will be mutually beneficial to both parties.

At the same time, new mutants make their way to the island and some familiar faces show them the beauty of their new home. While the mutants prepare for a negotiated peace, humanity prepares for war with a new secret base dedicated to the evolutionary threat mutants create. That threat aside, Cyclops finds himself standing in opposition to the Fantastic Four when a group of mutants steal data and attempt to escape back to Krakoa.

The Story: This is a great first issue. I was impressed with the tone and scope of this story from the beginning and each page revealed more things to enjoy as well as more mysteries and questions I want to see explored. Not the least of which is where Xavier came from and what he really wants. Hickman is creating an engaging and immersive world in this issue. A world that sparks the curiosity of the reader. I am fully engaged in this story from this first issue and want to see all the strange and fantastic places it goes next.

The Art: Pepe Larraz has some beautiful and captivating art in this issue. Both Larraz’s art and Gracia’s colors explode on the page. Everything from the characters to the backgrounds is filled with gorgeous details and the art is enhanced exponentially by the shadows and colors.
