The Rundown: Harley Quinn has a gift for the Birds of Prey and it involves a dangerous game with the Joker.

Harley explains to her would be friends why she is in Gotham but the story does not go over well with Montoya who wants her out of the city as soon as possible. After escaping from the cops with the help of a friend, Harley makes her way to a location guaranteed to get the Joker’s attention while leaving a gift behind for the team.

Joker is preparing to break in a new partner when his hideout is surrounded by police. As he tries to make his way to a secondary location, he discovers not only that all of his hideouts are surrounded, but after being captured by the Birds of Prey, the collected loot of all Gotham’s villains is being plundered by Harley herself. An act that could cause the entire Gotham City underworld to come after her.

The Story: Conner and Palmiotti focus on Harley in this issue and the shift in tone from the first issue is evident. This is a more fun story, but it doesn’t lower the stakes at all. There is great dialogue throughout and the writers use the more adult aspects of the imprint to tease some really dark and disturbing aspects of Joker. The action is paced really well and the story allows for some great surprises throughout. Bringing the team face to face with the Joker is interesting and the way this story plays out makes me interested in what happens next for all involved.

The Art: Amanda Conner’s art is fantastic. There is a lightness and energy to the art that engages the reader and the action is exciting to see.
