Dark Horse Comics and renowned creators Hannah Rose May and Utkarsh Ambudkar present a fresh new take on the spy thriller romance with upcoming comic series The Guy in the Chair. Featuring interior and cover art by Guillermo Sana (Savage Wolverine, Lovecraft Unknown: Kadath), colors by Dearbhla Kelly (Human Remains, Jennifer Blood), and letters by Steve Wands (The Flash, Adventure Time). The four-issue series begins in October 2025.

May is no stranger to comics, having created the series Rogues’ Gallery and The Exorcism at 1600 Penn at IDW previously. Now, joined by Ambudkar, known for his work in CBS’ hit comedy Ghosts and the Emmy-nominated film World’s Best as well as his music career, the duo have penned an imaginative, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy about two people navigating careers in covert operations.
May and Ambudkar had this to say on the creation of their original series:
“We met while filming Ghosts and immediately bonded on set over our shared love of comics and comedy. The Guy in the Chair is our love letter to both. We hope readers have as much fun reading it as we did writing it. We’re so grateful to our partners at Dark Horse for sharing the chair with us on this one.”
In The Guy in the Chair:
There is no room for love in the blood-soaked world of assassins and spies. Unfortunately for Abhi, a tactical analyst at a private military company, love is all he can think about. Against his employer’s strict policy, he’s fallen head over heels for Merlin, the field operative whose missions he supports as her “Guy in the Chair.”
When Merlin shows up at his apartment bloody, beaten, and pleading for help, Abhi is yanked from behind the safety of his computer screens. Now the two must prevent their former employer and a cabal of corporate overlords from a hostile global takeover that threatens all of humanity.
Step away from the screens and join the spies in the field as The Guy in the Chair #1 (of 4) arrives in comic shops on October 8, 2025, for $4.99.
