Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is scheduled for the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now it looks like the film has hit another snag.

Marvel Studios is probably the most well oiled of Hollywood machines, but the situation with GOTG and Disney is becoming more complicated by the day with an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter.

According to their exclusive story, production on GOTG Vol 3 has been put on hold with crew members who were starting pre-production being dismissed to pursue other projects. Marvel and Disney are said to be “regrouping” the project after director James Gunn was fired from the project after inappropriate tweets he made years ago resurfaced as a means of smearing him for his outspoken criticism of the President of the United States.

According to a source close to the project, GOTG Vol 3 is having its timeline “pushed out” as Disney and Marvel look for a new filmmaker to take on the project. There was speculation that there might be a reconcilliation between Gunn and Disney as back channel meetings were held between the parties. Disney honcho Alan Horn decided to stick to the company’s decision to back Gunn’s dismissal.

The cast of the film continues to support the ousted director and Drax the Destroyer actor Dave Bautista continues to be a vocal critic of the both the decision and the studio.

Principal photography was set to begin this winter with a script by Gunn. No word yet on whether the Gunn screenplay will be used or if a new director might decide to take the story in a different direction. I will continue to follow this story as it develops.
