On a distant planet, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Ant-Man descend from their transport and are greeted by an old friend. Cosmo leads the team to a battle already in progress between the Nova Corps and what looks like members of Groot’s species. The team springs into action in order to take them down. Unfortunately, Drax proves less than effective due to his desire not to harm them. A sentiment Groot does not share when he decides to take one out with a flamethrower.

As they savor the victory in the moment and Groot starts to grow again, Cosmo informs them that the Flora Colossi invasion is spreading across the system with more of them being dropped from the sky and an unknown intelligence behind the rampage. Across the galaxy, the Raptors continue running tests on the Nega-Bands they took, but are unable to find a way to make them work. As their fleet moves closer to the Nova Corps HQ, there is another growing problem to face.

Quill and Rocket are dealing with some formidable resistance trying to arrest the crooked members of the Nova Corps and Rocket decides to break up the fighting his own way. As Quill escorts the rogue Nova’s to their cells, Rocket confronts Adsit with the fact that their mission is far from over and that the next part of it might be more complicated than the Corps Leader thought.

There is a twist towards the end of this issue that is classic. It is something that builds in a fundamentally clever way and it really gives Rocket some great character moments. This issue is fun and funny and exactly what Guardians of the Galaxy should be. Duggan has done a great job of mixing humor with a uniquely clever storyline and the build up looks to pay off significantly in the next issue. Marcus To’s art continues to impress as he uses some great camera angles and panels to show action and it all works within the context of the story.
