The Rundown: A multitude of heroes and villains from various times periods and locations band together to stop Dominus from destroying the universe.
Dominus has created his own plane of time. When many of Earth’s heroes are unaffected by his creation, he scatters them across both “old” time and the universe in the hopes they will be destroyed.
Starfire, Dr. Light and Kamandi are on Krypton several weeks from its destruction. Superboy and Steel are on prehistoric Thanagar. And Sinestro, Booster Gold, and Batman are in Electric City decades into the future.
As the heroes find a way to navigate the strange new worlds they are immersed in, they are each set upon by Dominus’s agents. Through the efforts of Sinestro, Batman, and Booster Gold, the separate teams are brought together at one central destination. When the villains discover they have been betrayed, they are forced to team up with the heroes to stop Dominus from destroying the universe.
The Story: While it was interesting to follow the lives of disparate heroes, Dominus’s plot line was the most gripping. His motives and subsequent actions gave him depth. And while I was not on his side, I understood and sympathized with his situation.
The Art: The color palettes change from greyscale to muted to bold depending on which storyline is being highlighted. The art also has major swings that always let you know where you are in the story. Dominus’s narrative is mainly in black and white which highlights that his reality is self invented. It feels like watching a memory. Whereas the other parts of the story are in full color giving it a feeling of realism.
