The Rundown: Bucky and Sam Wilson find themselves in the middle of a power struggle that could change the face of global terrorism.
A hit squad has targeted Bucky Barnes in his quiet home and the Winter Soldier responds in kind. Sam Wilson is looking into a government agency that might be responsible for a missing colleague and runs into Bucky at the scene of a massacre. After finding out Bucky’s connection to the agency and its mission, the pair pay a visit to the only survivor of the massacre and Bucky’s handler.
After comforting the woman, the trio are interrupted by a young man with a hero worship fetish and a mission to kill them both. As he easily takes on the two heroes, he reveals that their greatest enemy is getting ready to return and that they plan to do so in a big way.
The Story: An interesting and well crafted first issue from Derek Landy. The relationship between these two characters has always been intriguing and bringing them together on this particular mission is inspired in its connections to their pasts and their mutual friend and partner. The antagonist in this issue is interesting as well, but the character lacks depth enough at this point to rank much higher than interesting. The story is engaging and I connected with it right away as I wanted to get to the heart of the mystery connecting the characters and how they will or won’t work together.
The Art: Federick Vicentini delivers some impressive visuals throughout this issue. Not only do the characters look great, but there is a fight sequence in this issue that is beautifully laid out panel after panel.
