The Rundown: Spencer Dales’ quest to save the life of someone he loves will put him at odds with forces powerful enough to take everything from him.

Spencer makes the impetuous decision to utilize forbidden magic to help his ailing grandmother. Something his father expressly forbids because of his fear of the power of the Aegis. Discounting that fear, Spencer sets out on a mission to steal information necessary to find what he needs. Unfortunately, he’s going to run into competition for the respect of his father in the process.

When Spencer gets to the next part of his plan, he and Aaron are confronted by a powerful entity whose job it is to keep the young man in line. Spencer is up against a being more powerful than he imagined and the cost of his defeat could mean the end of his connection to magic and the removal of his family from power.

The Story: The second issue of Excellence is just that, excellent. Brandon Thomas has created a fascinating and engaging world of family, magic and power. Spencer is an interesting and well written character with traits that are relatable to any reader. His mission is laid out in a thrilling and stunning way with stakes that elevate the story and its characters. With this issues thrilling conclusion, I can’t wait to see where this story goes next given the stakes laid out.

The Art: Khary Randolph’s art is absolutely beautiful. Every page is filled with impressive art and details. The action is fantastic and almost cinematic in how it plays out.
