Betsy Braddock, Gambit and Jubilee catch a ride with Kitty Pryde to the island the old Excalibur lighthouse was on. When the find the island in ruins and are attacked by magical sea creatures, Betsy is convinced Morgan is trying to stop them.

After building a new lighthouse and Krakoa gate under the watchful eyes of a group of Druids, Betsy has to admit she doesn’t know what to do to help Rogue. Plagued by dreams of Apocalypse and helped by the mutant himself, Betsy will take her fellow mutants to Otherworld in order to help both Rogue and her brother.

The Story: One of the things that I enjoy the most about this new direction for the Marvel mutants is the unpredictability of their stories and the new and interesting directions the writing teams are taking these characters. Tini Howard writes a story filled with adventure, surprises and heart and I found myself engrossed with each characters journey. The story relays to the reader that the threats the mutants face come from everywhere and wear many faces. The depiction of Apocalypse is perfect. The inability to fully trust him is conveyed so well that I was immediately able to connect to the other characters fear, anger and anxiety. The twist at the end of this issue was amazing and I can’t wait for what’s next.

The Art: Marcus To delivers some beautiful art throughout this issue. The characters look great and the art captures the magical tone of the story and its stakes perfectly.
