The Rundown: Dudley learns the history of the watch he’s wearing and who is willing to kill him to get it.

After his teacher and mentor is killed, Dudley finds himself on the run from strange killers with a talking dog named Daedalus. After almost getting killed by one of the murderers hunting him, he discovers something strange about him and uses his suit to temporarily stop him and escape. As both he and Daedelus make it out of the school, the dog takes him to someplace they might be safe.

Once they reach their destination, Daedalus tells Dudley the history of the watch he’s wearing as well as the society created to protect it. A society of inventors that have been tasked with protecting the world from an alien threat released on the planet centuries ago. A threat that has made its way to their location and wants what Dudley has.

The Story: Snyder delivers a wonderful story that brilliantly expands on the premise of the series and gives great information that helps build the world of the characters and their conflict. There is some great action and tension throughout the story, but I love that one of the central themes of the story is the pursuit of knowledge and the glory of invention. I also love how Dudley is challenged both physically and intellectually in the story and the cliffhanger ending makes me excited to see what happens next.

The Art: Igle delivers some visually thrilling art throughout the issue. There are some great action beats in the story and I love the tonal change in the visuals between the past and present.
