The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that there is an upcoming sequel to the 1986 JIm Henson fantasy film Labyrinth and that the studio has found a director.

According to THR, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson has been hired to direct the upcoming sequel from the script by Maggie Levin.

Levin is the writer director of series like Miss 2059 as well as an episode of Into The Dark. Derrickson is known for directing films like the first Doctor Strange film for Marvel Studios as well as Sinister and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Labyrinth told the story of Sarah, a teenager who wishes her stepbrother be taken away by the Goblin King. When the king obliges, Sarah must enter the labyrinth in order to reach the Goblin City and rescue her brother. Jennifer Connelly played Sarah in the film with David Bowie taking on the role of the Goblin King Jareth.

Lisa Henson of The Jim Henson Company is producing the Labyrinth sequel, with Brian Henson executive producing.  Derrickson and his frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill are also executive producing. Blanca Lisa, vp of feature film production, is overseeing for The Jim Henson Company.
