The Rundown: Two twisted tales of All Hallows Eve make up this Doctor Strange annual and each one deals with the thin veil between dimensions on Halloween night.

DOCTOR-STRANGE-ANNUAL-1-3

A Hallowed Evening: Zelma returns to the Sanctum Sanctorum to find Stephen Strange surrounded by fellow magicians including Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, Doctor VooDoo and Talisman. With the veil between dimensions weakened on All Hallows Eve, Strange and the others must fortify the Sanctum and prepare for the arrival of the spirits and demons who will use this night to pierce that veil and enter our world. Zelma’s job is to keep their physical bodies safe as they traverse the astral plane and beyond.

A prospect that becomes increasingly difficult as the night progresses.

Treat: Two young men, who have decided that stealing no longer gives them the thrills they seek, have broken into a location seeking a certain object of value. Unbeknownst to the young men, the place they’ve broken into has some unique security features and a caretaker that is constantly on alert for this particular type of threat.

The Story: Tini Howard brings humor and fun to a story that features great characters and a lot of thrilling and entertaining moments throughout. The story shows how interesting and engaging the magical community of the Marvel universe can be, Strange especially.

The second story is darker and Pichetshote does a great job of pacing it to be both scary and entertaining. I really enjoyed the reveals in this story and recommend reading it to see them for yourself.

The Art: Andy MacDonald’s art in the first story is perfect for the tone and spectacle that Howard’s story is creating. Sharma’s style of art perfectly complements the dark, disturbing tale Pichetshote has woven.
