The Rundown: As the war continues to rage, one of the party will seek revenge on a former friend.

On the edge of the city, Ash and Isabelle witness an explosion at the gates. An explosion that can only be caused by Matt tearing them down. After Isabelle tells Ash what one of the gods in her service did, Ash realizes that Matt is coming to kill her. With her options limited, Ash will have to decide on a course of action that will keep her from having to release a bigger threat to end the immediate one.

At the same time, the remaining members of the party will find themselves on the brink of victory only to have it take from them by the actions of one of their own. With two worlds at stake and Matt preparing to kill his friend, Ash will make a discovery that could help them all and Sol discovers that he has been wrong about the game this entire time.

The Story: The plot gets bigger, deeper and more complex with each issue. Kieron Gillen has a mastery of the characters, the world and the interpersonal conflicts that make the story rich and compelling. There is a darker, more personal tone to this story and that makes it engaging to the reader. These characters have been through so much and had so many things taken from them that you feel for them when the plot pits them against each other. A great issue.

The Art: Stephanie Hans blows me away with the art in this issue. So many of the pages are beautifully drawn and dynamic in their staging. There is a wonderful build up of events visually that draws the reader’s eye and makes you want to read on.
