Season 1 Episode 2
You Are Not Alone
The team lands in Pennsylvania to investigate a piece of debris with strange magnetic powers.
The team has been dispatched to a small town in Pennsylvania when pieces of metal including cars, bikes and others start moving through the streets and collecting outside of town. At the same time, the CIA discusses the unlikely development of Finola’s father coming back from the grave and the fact that his well funded group is going after the debris as well. The episode has a really good opening scene that is filled with intrigue and the first few minutes do a great job of setting up the conflict that will play out across the season.
As they investigate the debris, Finola and Bryan find a mysterious man who seems to be being affected by the debris as well and his erratic behavior is troubling. As more debris moves throughout the town, they discover that it is building an artificial barrier. When the mystery man Eric escapes from his escort, the debris mystery takes another turn as they not only have to chase him down but also what he’s after. Things get more complicated when they determine that there is something unusual about him including the three other versions of him.
As the CIA and MI6 continue to both cooperate and lie to each other, Bryan and Finola get closer to finding the possible source of the Eric copies as the circles seems to be forming around Eric’s home. What happens next is some great science fiction with some great character moments and twists as well, especially for Bryan.
The plot in this episode is well done and there is a sense of where the interpersonal relationships are going as well as the conflicts throughout. The conclusion of the episode is a little saccharine, but everything leading up to it is well done and engaged me as a viewer. It might take a couple of episodes for the show to really find its rhythm, but what I’ve seen so far makes me interested in seeing what happens next.
