The Rundown: A signal from an old friend will bring s group of heroes back to a dead world.

DCeased Dead Planet-1-1

The anti-life infection all but wiped out life on Earth and as Cyborg worked to help the survivors leave the planet, he was ambushed and ripped apart by Wonder Woman before being left to rot and decay. Five years later, Cyborg’s remains discover a hidden tracker within him planted by Batman and he uses that tracker to send a message to the survivors in deep space.

On their new planet, the survivors find little comfort as the new Justice League finds itself in the middle of a fight against alien invaders. The new Batman, Damian Wayne, doesn’t see the point of negotiating peace with the aliens, but Superman (Jon Kent) wants everyone to live together in peace. When the heroes discover the signal from Cyborg, they must decide if going back is worth the risk. When they do, they will discover not only that Diana is waiting for them, but that there is more to the infection than they believed.

The Story: Filled with intensity and tension, Tom Taylor brings the reader back into a dark world populated by terrors. What makes this first issue so interesting and entertaining is that there is another element at play that becomes clear at the end of the issue, hope. Even with the threats of zombie hordes, everything the heroes have lost and the looming threat of an undead Wonder Woman stalking the survivors, Taylor still manages to inject this story with hope through the hopefulness of its characters including Green Arrow and Black Canary.

The Art: Trevor Hairsine delivers some powerful and beautiful visuals in this issue. From the lineup of the new Justice League to the intimate moments between Ollie and Dinah, Hairsine knows how to give the visuals emotional weight.
