The Rundown: Devastation will be the catalyst to bring the survivors together, but a threat they didn’t imagine will take down the mightiest of them all.

Superman and Diana float above the destruction of Metropolis in horror at the devastation all around them. They make their way to the remains of the Daily Planet and Clark finds that his loved ones are safe and that Lex Luthor has arrived to offer his help.

All over the world, the remaining heroes work to reshape it to protect and help the survivors. From Themyscira to the Ivy controlled Gotham City, the remaining heroes have turned the tide back towards the living. Unfortunately, death will return in the form of an old friend and the next hero infected will require Superman to make the ultimate sacrifice to stop before he infects the rest of the world.

The Story: This was a truly powerful issue that hit on all cylinders. Taylor deftly mixes in elements of hope, fear, anger, humor, horror and sorrow effectively to take the reader on an emotional journey with twists and turns that no one could suspect. I enjoy the landscape of this world Taylor has created and how the heroes have to navigate in it. The writing is fantastic and the final few pages will break your heart.

The Art: Hairsine delivers some beautiful art in this issue. The art manages to strike the perfect balance between beauty and the grotesque. The scenes of destruction are visceral and effective. I really enjoy how this issue looks from start to finish.
