The Rundown: With the final battle between the Darkest Knight and Perpetua raging, a new figure emerges to chronicle the end of the multiverse.

As the surviving heroes and villains of the multiverse gather to witness the epic battle between Perpetua and the Darkest Knight, the Mobius Chair sits corrupted and empty with Metron dead. With the revelation that there is a greater Omniverse present, a new being emerges to witness the death of this multiverse. A being sent to chronicle its life and death through the eyes of those who witnessed every event and crisis.

As the being searches out those who have that knowledge including Psycho Pirate, it decides to resurrect one who has a unique view of the events. As the being watches the struggle and chronicles the events, the god it resurrected gives the Chronicler a new perspective on the multiverse itself. One that might change the being’s entire purpose.

At the same time, John Stewart and the rescued heroes of the multiverse return to see that their efforts did not stop the rise of the Darkest Knight. In the wake of this revelation, Stewart decides that the last gambit they have left might be their only chance to survive.

The Story: While not featuring any of the main characters from the bigger story, James Tynion IV does manage to make this story engaging. By bringing the reader outside of the events, we can get a new perspective on the story, the characters and the stakes. The second story with the surviving heroes and the Green Lantern corps is great. Bryan Hill captures what is great about John Stewart as a character and opens the door for an interesting turn of events.

The Art: Both Jesus Merino and Nik Virella do a great job with the art in this issue. Both sides of the story have great imagery as they paint pictures of different aspects of the bigger story.
