The Rundown: Cosmic Ghost Rider has come to the past to do more than remind his younger self to treasure his family. He’s come back to fix the most important moment in his entire life.

Frank and “Fredo” finally come to some kind of understanding as they head back into the house to have dinner as a family. When the younger Frank makes the suggestion that changes the course of his life, Fredo goes along to keep an eye on the young family.

With the moment that changed Frank Castle’s life approaching fast, old Frank tells more stories about his trips through time to them including the hand he played in starting the Avengers. When the moment of truth finally arrives, old Frank finds himself face to face with someone who shows him the full scope of Cosmic Ghost Riders actions.

The Story: The concept of Frank Castle taking on the history of the Marvel universe and altering it in small ways is interesting and fun. Unfortunately, this issue wasn’t. Scheer and Giovannetti try to find a humorous thread in this story and when they do, they lean into it so hard that the humor gets lost. The jokes were relentless from page to page and many of them were not as funny as the writers thought they would be. The relentless one-liners took away any emotional impact Frank’s presence had with his family. Was I expecting somber, reflective storytelling? Not really. I just wish the writers pulled back on the humor and let funny moments be funny without having to stack them on top of each other until they lose their impact.

The Art: Nathan Stockman’s art is great. It definitely matched the tone and style of the story being told. The flashback moments looked amazing in both detail and character.
