The Rundown: A private eye is brought in to investigate the disappearance of a real life superhero.

Twenty years ago, a superhero came from nowhere and made it his mission to protect the city. A hero that makes his presence known when hostages are taken at a bank and he races in with his supped up car and twin revolvers killing the bad guys and racing away from the scene with the police in pursuit. As his reputation grew, he started to be seen as a hero to the citizens and even began working with the police. Then one day, he disappeared.

Decades later, billionaire Byron West calls in private investigator Jake Stevens for a meeting at his estate. After a tense meeting, West tells Jake he wants him to find the mysterious hero and is willing to pay him handsomely to do so. After accepting the job, Jake gets to work and finds himself tracking down the former hero’s kid sidekick who has an interesting story to tell about the nature of his adventures. A story that will take Jake’s investigation in a new direction.

The Story: Richardson crafts an entertaining and intriguing mystery in this first issue. There are definitely some familiar shades of other stories, but this series takes them in an interesting direction. I like the characters in the issue a lot and every twist of the plot makes me interested in what comes next both for the character and his investigation. The first issue does a great job at hooking me with the story and it will be interesting to see where it goes next.

The Art: Armengol delivers some fantastic art in the issue. The noir style of the visuals are beautifully done and engaging.
