Carol Danvers has invited some friends over for a friendly game night including Wolverine, Monica Rambeau, Spider-Woman and more. When Ms. Marvel arrives, things get a little tense when they realize she can’t play poker for religious reasons. She suggests a new game for everyone to play and the heroes find themselves in New Jersey.

Kamala knows of a popular Escape Room experience that might interest the heroes. When the man running it, aka Nexus, hears about the roster of heroes coming to his establishment, he is eager to have them as guests. Once they enter, Wolverine realizes that this isn’t your average escape room and the trap they find themselves in could be deadly.

The Story: After the last arc, Kelly Thompson decides to slow things down and give Carol some downtime. It’s a fun premise and her friends make the story more interesting. Unfortunately, the story begins to lose its momentum when Kamala arrives. Having to accommodate her takes any edge or tension from the plot and frankly makes the characters weaker overall. If it were just Carol and Kamala, it might have been more interesting, but Jessica and Logan felt wasted in this issue that frankly felt too short. Nexus was less than compelling as a foil and the danger to the group was unbelievable.

The Art: Francesco Manna does a great job with the art in the issue. The characters look great, but there wasn’t enough to really do from a story perspective so the art never really got the chance to be that impressive.
