At the same time, Simon has to deal with his failure to secure the Winters’ business with his boss. Mr. Gregori decides to give Simon another shot, but puts his own plans in motion to reverse engineer ash to drive the family to sell. Their results do not have the desired effect.

Brae finds that he and his family are under more scrutiny when a new detective introduces herself. She’s investigating the disappearance of two dirty cops and she has her sights set on the Winters family. A new challenge breaks him out of his funk as he sends someone to investigate her and a family meeting reveals that the influence of a person close to them all isn’t gone.

Everything is about to change for the Winters family and Cullen Bunn is taking this tense and entertaining thriller into new and interesting territory. I continue to be impressed with the tone and pace of this story. It builds tension with each moment and the cracks in the family dynamic are punctuated by great dialogue. There is a mastery to this story that allows Bunn to lay the foundation of a moment in the beginning of the issue that pays off in the brilliant cliffhanger ending.

Every issue builds on the overall story and the encroaching dangers that the Winters family will face and this issue adds a new layer that has the potential to change everything going forward.

Jonas Scharf’s art in this issue is beautiful in its details and each page builds to the dramatic conclusion.
