There’s blood in the water and the sharks are circling for the Winters family.

Grace Winters is dealing with a lot these days and her troubles are about to increase. But first, she has to bury her son Wade. She uses the last of her ash to let Andre witness his son’s funeral as well as the tension boiling bubbling between Brae and Brigitte. He cautions her about the dangerous territory they are about to wade in and she will not have his council in the fight ahead.

As the Winters family grieves, the forces plotting against them continue their plans and Simon’s boss wants answers. His feelings for Grace are going to become a complication and his loyalty is going to be tested when his boss wants to know why his business isn’t wrapped up in New Orleans. It’s an interesting complication that should show exactly what type of character Simon really is.

Fresh from the funeral, Brae has some planning of his own to do and it’s going to require visiting the son of his dad’s former business partner. A prospect that is dangerous in itself without factoring in the sister of the man the Winters’ killed and how much more sadistic and dangerous she will prove to be to everyone. A final twist in this part of the story is a brilliant ending that signals that Grace might not be done with the ghost of Andre just yet.

Cullen Bunn continues to craft and suspenseful, interesting and well-paced thriller with this series and this issue as well. The characters are engaging. The family dynamics and conflicts are grounded in reality with great dialogue to punctuate their turmoil. The threats he has created for the family are ominous and full of palpable tension. There is a high level of craft to this story and it comes through with each issue.

Jonas Scharf’s brilliant use of light and shadow complements the dialogue and story. So much energy and emotion is conveyed in the panels and how they’re done. Even without the great dialogue, there is an emotional and powerful story being told in the art of this issue.
