Black Panther #4

Marvel Comics

Written by Ta-Nehisi Coates

Art by Daniel Acuna

Letters by Joe Sabino

The Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda saga continues as the Maroon forces try to hold their own against an assault by the forces of emperor N’Jadaka. As the warriors fight to find a means of escape, T’Challa rallies everyone that he can to press the attack as M’Baku takes on a new threat in The Manifold.

Once again T’Challa leaps into the fray and takes on anyone and everything standing before him. There is a lot of action and a sacrifice made to help the others escape as well as the emperor making plans to finally crush the rebellion and the man called T’Challa.

There is a lot of action in this issue and I like that there is an actual sense of kinship between the characters. Unfortunately, not a lot actually happens in this issue. Beyond the action and visuals, there’s no real development with any of the characters. The mystery of who T’Challa is and the circumstances that brought him to this space and time are sidelined along with the importance of the M’Kraan shard. The escape would have made a fine interlude in the story, but in this issue, it became the whole story. As much as I liked the action and pacing, I would have enjoyed the issue more if there was a more story driven motive behind it.

Acuna has some great art in this issue and that is really want kept me engaged. I loved the composition of the action beats in this issue and the colors popped. There is a great sense of energy to the action and the panels feel fluid. The style of the art is great as well.
