The Rundown: Local officials attempt to kill the Sangeryes as a bigger threat emerges.

For years, the family and its allies have met to discuss the growing threat from the jinoo and Dr. Sylvester uses that moment to not only thank them for saving him, but also to challenge the way they’ve been conducting their war. In the present, Sylvester makes his way into darkness to rescue one of the Sangeyre children to show his commitment to his new family.

At the same time, the governor and the local sheriff want the Sangeyre team and the FBI agents with them killed before they stumble on their bigger plans. Plans that the family have been concerned about for years as they have given more and more information to the government while being left out of its plans for the jinoo. The team finds itself facing off against the sheriff and his forces before a bigger threat begins to emerge from beneath their very feet.

The Story: Walker and Brown deliver a thrilling, engaging story in this issue. I love that the fight is expanding and that there are bigger implications at play that the family takes the time to discuss. The conversation by the family in between the action adds a wonderful layer to the story that brings more weight and substance to the mission they are on. I loved the reveal in the story as well and cannot wait to see what happens next.

The Art: Greene’s art is beautifully detailed and visually complex. I love how the moments from the past are woven into the action of the present.
