The Rundown: Superman requires some unorthodox treatment and the extent of a new threat emerges.

A problem as unique as a severely injured Superman whose blood is being poisoned by kryptonite requires a unique solution in the form of the Doom Patrol. Unable to remove the infection conventionally, Caulder calls on Negative Man to try something different. In the aftermath, both Superman and Batman discover that the attack on the Man of Steel might be prompted by the return of a powerful, immortal warrior.

When the pair learn that their allies are also being targeted by magical and supernatural forces, they send Supergirl and Robin on a trip through time to get answers while they race off to save a young boy being stalked by a powerful wizard. Both teams will discover that their missions are going to become more dangerous as they find themselves getting closer to the truth.

The Story: Mark Waid delivers some great tension and action in this issue. The tension in the first few pages is sustained throughout and the side stories work to boost the main as well as develop the characters and their relationships. The dynamic between Kara and Dick is fun and entertaining and their side story is incredibly interesting. Waid does a brilliant job of bringing in characters like the Doom Patrol and giving their presence meaning.

The Art: Dan Mora delivers some blisteringly beautiful imagery throughout this story. The character designs are awesome and the action brilliantly captures the tone of the story visually.
