In the drama of the DC Extended Universe we have seen multiple script reboots, multiple directors jumping ship and a seemingly steady stream of production delays.

When Ben Affleck took on the role of Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the fact that there would be a solo Batman film starring Affleck was never in doubt. When Affleck was announced to not only star, but also write and direct the next Batman film, fans and the studio were all on board. After all, Affleck has become a highly respected director with films like Argo and The Town under his belt. He’s also an Oscar winning writer for Good Will Hunting alongside Matt Damon.

After Affleck dropped out of directing the film and only staying on to produce and star, Warner Brothers hired War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves to take over the production. After a rocky start, both parties agreed and Reeves began to tell the press about his dreams of a gritty, noir Batman tale. It’s now being reported and confirmed by multiple sources including The Hollywood Reporter and CBS News that the director has ditched the screenplay co-written by Affleck and will instead craft a whole new story for the next Batman solo outing.

With Affleck headed to Hall H next week to begin the hype for Justice League, I’m sure there will be questions about the script and whether there is any tension between he and the director regarding the new path the movie is taking. Also, what will happen with Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke? Will he still be a part of the new script or will his character be cut out all together?

Justice League opens in theaters November 17, 2017.
