The Rundown: Selina must face her actions as her daughter tries to understand the relationship between she and her father.
The relationship between Selin and Bruce is filled with both passion and secrets. Bruce comes to realize this when he wakes up in the basement of a bank bound and with the police on their way. When he sees a note saying that Selina and Andrea are going to kill the Joker, Bruce has to fight his way free. In the future, Dick pays a visit to the manor under Helena’s direction to arrest Selina for the murder of the Joker.
Helena struggles with trying to understand why someone like her father would want to be with someone like her mother and the intensity of their relationship continues to unfold. In the aftermath of betrayal, Selina returns to Bruce to tell her what happened between Andrea and Joker and future Selina proves she’s not as helpless as people think.
The Story: King continues to craft an entertaining psychological study with some great thriller elements throughout. The fraught relationship between Selina and her daughter is as compelling as the one between Selina and Bruce. The story is incredibly engrossing as I found myself going back over moments because they are so intriguing. There is a lot of build up in this issue and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
The Art: Liam Sharp delivers some gritty visuals in this issue and the style perfectly matches the gritty, noir elements of the plot. Shadow is used brilliantly throughout and the visual styles of both the past and present stories work perfectly together.
