The Rundown: Bruce Wayne needs Jefferson and his team on the move and headed to California to retrieve Sofia before the man who killed her father finds her. He tells Black Lightning that he has an ally guarding her, but Jeff has more questions.

Meanwhile, Sofia is still dealing with both her grief at the loss of her father and the fact that someone is hunting her for her powers in the name of one of Batman’s greatest foes. The man known as Kaliber does his best to keep her safe, but Ishmael is hot on her trail and determined to bring her to his master. It’s going to take an intense battle between the opposing forces to keep the young woman safe, but they will all find that the enemy they are facing is nothing if not determined.

The Story: Brian Hill does a great job of showing the divergent philosophies of both Bruce and Jefferson and they manage to clash respectfully which is a testament to Jeff as a character. He knows who he is and continues to hold onto his beliefs despite the intimidating presence of Batman. I think that’s why Hill cleverly has their one on one meetings take place between Bruce and Jeff as opposed to Batman and Black Lightning. The dialogue is interesting with some clever and fun moments like the Kaliber reveal. Would really love to see Signal and Orphan utilized more in the story going forward, but enjoyed this issue a lot and where it seems to be going.

The Art: Dexter Soy’s art is beautifully intense. It’s dark and richly detailed. The tone of the art is the perfect balance to the tone of Hill’s storytelling and the action scenes are amazing.
