The Rundown: The new Batman will have to give his grandson a lesson in respect as Selina explains to Bruce what he needs to do to take back Gotham.
Gotham Girl is on the hunt and her prey is Damian. The impetuous Robin decided to enter the city and make his stand against the new dynamic duo. After incapacitating Gotham Girl, Damian goes after Thomas Wayne and the new Batman reminds his grandson what he stands to lose. When Damian realizes what Bane and Thomas are willing to do to keep the city, he gets a harsh lesson in their resolve.
On the other side of the ocean, Bruce finally awakens and Selina has to teach him that all the scenarios he has for taking back the city alone will fail unless he does something unorthodox and unexpected. Something she can teach him.
The Story: This issue was intense and raw as it unflinchingly unraveled its plot. Damian has always been a wild card in the Bat-Family and this issue shows the young hero the price of his hubris. A price he and the reader were not prepared to see paid. Both the page before and the reveal itself are dramatic, tense and shocking. There is a moment that carries the same visceral weight as Batman’s back being broken. I don’t know where this story goes from that moment forward, but Tom King has told the audience that no one is safe in the City of Bane.
The Art: Mikel Janin and Tony S Daniel’s art perfectly complement this story and both styles merge perfectly with the parts of the story they are telling visually.
