The Rundown: Batman continues to operate within his new parameters as a new threat grows and Damian has a family reunion.
A new group targets the media elite in Gotham City and Batman chases them with a renewed fervor as well as limited resources. An assist from Ghost-maker helps, but Bruce is behind as larger forces gather behind the scenes to control public opinion about Gotham in the wake of Batman’s perceived failure. As Bruce investigates, an old threat looks on enjoying the increase in fear.
At the same time, Damian returns to seek out his mother. After rejecting Batman and his mission, Talia is not exactly welcoming at his return, but the two won’t have time to catch up as a new group of assassins attacks with the goal of ending Talia’s control.
The Story: James Tynion IV continues to bring the reader into a new and unknown version of Gotham City. It’s changing political and social landscape are on display and it is interesting to see how Batman navigates this new atmosphere. It’s even more interesting seeing how James Tynion IV is evolving the character to meet these challenges. Williamson brings some intriguing energy to the Damian story and his dynamic with Talia has an edge that I enjoyed.
The Art: Jimenez is a master at bringing beautiful details together to make scenes with beauty and energy. Melnikov delivers some great panels that emphasize the characters through brilliantly done close ups and shadows.
