The Rundown: Batman attempts to bring in Killer Croc in a Gotham that is becoming increasingly more hostile to his activities.

Gordon is back to being a beat cop and he and his partner are just in time to witness Killer Croc escaping the hospital and hitting the streets hard. Batman has a meeting with Waylon’s doctor who tries to get him to see that his former enemy is changing. At the same time, Commissioner Vandal Savage prepares to field new mercenary agents onto the streets to combat crime in the city.

Batman continues with business as usual as he tracks down Croc’s movements while also helping anyone he can. After finding Croc, Batman has an unexpected encounter with him that makes him question things as he gets a call from Robin who needs help in dealing with the police.

The Story: Fraction delivers a thrilling, intense and engaging story in this first issue. I love the dark tone of the story and how Batman is dealing with a more intense and antagonistic Gotham while grappling with his own ideas and the possibility of actual change. There is a wonderful maturity to the story as well as thrilling and entertaining action that leads to a compelling cliffhanger with some interesting teases of other threats to come.

The Art: Jimenez delivers some stunning art throughout the issue. I love the visual style and the beautifully detailed characters and environments.
