The Rundown: Jackson learns the truth about his family history and makes a bold choice to protect a dear friend.

The story opens with Lucia and Meeka having an interesting conversation at a tragic location. Elsewhere, Jackson and Delilah’s meeting turns deadly when an outside incident causes havoc in Xebel. Afterwards, Jackson has a rendezvous with someone surprising. Later, Jackson and Delilah are met by the mother. Soon, the siblings learn of a deadly plot and the group must decide how to proceed.

The Story: Thomas crafts an interesting and thoughtful narrative in the penultimate chapter of this limited series. And while action is always at the forefront, this series is built on familial ties. And both Jackson’s birth family and chosen family play an important role. I’m fascinated by Delilah and have a deep sympathy toward her. Her story is born of tragedy and much of her life has been rooted in lies. I want to know more of her story. I am also curious what role she will play in further adventures.

It was also nice to see Jackson’s interactions with Ha’wea. The portrayal of romance and caring amidst gay people of color is impactful and powerful, and I am so happy for its inclusion. Finally, this episode ends on a strong note, and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

The Art: This stunning issue features impressive action scenes and well-done underwater design. I particularly appreciated the attention paid to the characters ethnic traits including features and hair styles. The diversity of the characters is notable and perfectly done.
