In the Village of Unspoken Water, the Old Gods gather in Wee’s home to lament the potential mistake they made. A mistake that will send Caille and Arthur to a showdown with Namma. A showdown they are not prepared for.

On Namma’s island, Arthur is confronted by Caille who has been taken over by another entity. The two battle as Arthur tries to help his friend. When Namma finally appears, she cannot understand how Arthur is resisting her power. When she tries to kill Caille to make herself whole again, Arthur attacks her, forcing her into another form that drags him down into the ocean.

Being taken under the water doesn’t have the desired effect that she wants and the former king of Atlantis taps into his powers, releasing a call that just might signal his return.

There is a beautiful poetry to this issue and this entire arc. Everything from the lament of the Old Gods to Arthur’s struggle to fight for his memories and his friend give a sense of epic scale to this story. Kelly Sue DeConnick weaves a brilliant story that is both big in scope and stakes, but still grounded in human emotion. I am impressed with how DeConnick is forging this new and interesting tale for Aquaman and I am intrigued with how it will end.

Robson Rocha’s artwork is beautifully detailed throughout the issue. Everything from the character expressions to the amazing fight scenes looks great.
