Ant-Man and The Wasp Blu-Ray Features

The next little/big adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now available on Blu-Ray and the release has some fun special features that are keeping in the spirit of the fun and funny feature film.

Back in The Ant Suit: Scott Lang

This is a fun, short feature that highlights the comedy of co-writer and Ant-Man star Paul Rudd. Featuring interviews with the cast and producers of the film, the funny and likeable Rudd is seen making his co-stars laugh on the set as he has fun with everything he’s doing. Rudd chimes in about the everyman nature of Scott Lang and his ultimate desire to be a better dad. It’s a fun short that gives the audience a chance to see how Rudd helps the tone of the movie.

A Suit of Her Own: The Wasp

The evolution of Hope Van Dyne is the focus of this short. Evangeline Lilly discusses her expanded role in the film as the incentive to return. Hope’s personal and emotional journey with her father is discussed as well as how truly capable the character is to be a hero on her own. Making the characters into a team was the goal of the sequel according to the producer so the interactions between Hope and Scott are highlighted. Like the previous short, this one does a good in a short time.

Subatomic Super Heroes: Hank and Janet

MCU-Wasp-Ant-Man-2015

Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer are showcased in this short and they discuss the world of super heroes and how they are navigating it as part of their extensive careers. Both stars marvel at their characters and their journeys as well as how great it was working with each other. Pfeiffer discusses what she wanted from the character as far as being both a warrior and a scientist in her own right. Another good short that highlights character as well as the fun of the experience.

Quantum Perspective: The VFX and Production Design of Ant-Man and The Wasp

Like the title suggests, this feature focuses on the production design of the film, specifically places like Hank’s lab. The short also features exteriors like Scott’s house and others with a visit to Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. The set designs were really interesting and the short features some great locations that the design team found for the film.

Deleted Scenes

The Stan Lee outtakes are fun. There are several really funny lines that Stan delivers in that short period of time and each one could have been featured in the movie. The Tim Heidecker outtakes are fun, but don’t hold the same fun and whimsy of the Stan Lee outtakes. The deleted scene with Janet and Hank in the Quantum Realm was interesting, but it’s understandable why it was cut. The same thing can be said for the scene of Sonny learning about Hank’s lab from the building across the street. It was interesting, but didn’t really add much to the story.

Line by Line: The Art of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

This featured extra highlights the artists and visual development production team that designs everything that the audience sees. Feige discusses the concept artists who take the comic book source material and make it tactile and realistic in their designs for the characters. It’s a fun trip down memory lane from the first Iron Man to Infinity War and it’s great to see how the same artists have evolved the look of the characters from film to film. Great doc that could have been longer.

The features are all good and they manage to keep a light tone that reflects the light and fun tone of the movie. Personally, at the ten year mark of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I would like to see Marvel Studios return to producing One-Shot shorts to continue expanding the universe itself.
