The Rundown: Superboy’s identity is compromised by someone close.

Clark and his parents receive a visit to their home by Clark’s history teacher Mr. Blake. Unable to effectively lie to the man, Clark reveals that there is more to him and Blake reveals that he is also an alien. An alien who knows what it is like to see other young aliens use their powers without training and the tragedy that created on their worlds.

After Blake leaves, Clark is uneasy and doesn’t fully trust the man’s motives as he deals with being a teenager. When an encounter with a bully sends Clark on a mission to escape from everything, Blake arrives to give him a test of his abilities. A test Clark will undertake not knowing that he is being watched by more than just his teacher.

The Story: Waid creates an entertaining story in this issue. I love going back to Clark’s early days as a local hero and how unsure he is during that time. I like that the story takes the time to showcase Clark’s domestic life and how typical he is as a teenager. He isn’t perfect and still has lots to learn and I like seeing that in the character. I also like the mystery at the heart of this story as well and look forward to seeing it play out.

The Art: Patridge delivers some great looking art throughout the issue. The visuals and imagery have a classic silver age style to them that I think works perfectly with the story and its subject matter.
