The Rundown: Things get more serious between factions on Earth while Mongol grows impatient.

After a failed attempt to steal the Genesis fragment from the Atlanteans the US finds itself at odds with the nation when it is revealed by Batman that the thieves were members of Task Force X and sent by Amanda Waller. With tension mounting between the US and Atlantis, Batman proposes that the League prepare for a possible war. At the same time, Superman is looking for help liberating the slaves of Warworld.

At the same time, Lois tries to connect with Thao-La, but Jon is still suspicious. After Jon leaves, Lois finds herself at odds with the young woman when she refuses to remove her chains. At the same time, Mongol watches the situation and grows impatient that his plan is in jeopardy. Sensing potential failure, he decides to step in to remind Thao-La who she really serves.

The Story: There is a lot to enjoy in this issue. Johnson does a great job of raising the stakes on multiple fronts while also broadening the plot in ways that make sense to the characters and the story. I was impressed with Batman’s appearance as well as Aquaman’s position. Lois’ bravery impressed me as well and the moment when Superman finally speaks up was well done. That’s also part of the problem. For a Superman story, with the exception of his speech to the League, Clark seems to keep being pushed into the background of his own narrative. A good story with a great premise that needs to find its footing before the reader loses interest.

The Art: Sampere delivers some beautiful art throughout the issue. All of the characters look amazing and there is a great level of detail across every part of the story. A great looking issue from start to finish.
