The Rundown: As Abbott reports on the changes coming to her city, a powerful evil plots against her.

After stopping the evil of Bellcamp and his plans, Elena Abbott has settled back into her life and prepares to chronicle the possible election of the city’s first black mayor. More changes are in store for the Lightbringer as she finds herself settling into a relationship and dealing with a new boss who has some less than progressive ideas about how a woman should behave in the office.

When the forces behind Bellcamp choose a new person to bring down Abbott, their choice decides to attack the reporter in a new way. One that Abbott isn’t expecting and that she might be prepared to take on.

The Story: Saladin Ahmed drops the reader back into Abbott’s world with a story that has some interesting and engaging layers to it both in the plot and with the characters. Abbott has a lot she is about to face at work, in her personal life and more and Ahmed does a great job of setting up those plot points organically. I was impressed by the characters, plot and motivations throughout and I cannot wait for the next issue to see where the story goes next.

The Art: Sami Kivela delivers some beautiful atmosphere in this first issue. The art really helps to set up the tone and mood of the story. A great looking issue with an emphasis on character.
