The Rundown: Miles faces a powerful villain with a connection to his father’s past.

Miles Morales is trying to find a balance between his life as a hero and his life as a student and the new girl in his class is helping him in her own way as he decides that spending time with someone normal might just be what he needs. At the same time, a new villain emerges that seems to be looking for someone in the city.

After turning down a chance at adventure with Miguel and Gwen, Miles returns to Brooklyn only to find his father being attacked by the new villain in town who seems to be targeting Jeff specifically. After saving his father, Jeff reveals that the villain is connected to his former work with SHIELD and Miles decides that he needs to go after the man before he comes for Jeff and his family.

The Story: Hill crafts a fun, thrilling and entertaining story in this first issue. I love seeing the internal struggle Miles is dealing with and that he makes the decision to stay grounded even at the cost of adventure with his fellow Spiders. I also like that the villain has a connection to Miles through his father and look forward to seeing how that storyline develops. There are some great thrills in this first issue and it definitely hooked me into reading what comes next.

The Art: Leon and De Landro create some beautifully detailed and visually exciting art throughout the issue. I also love that both art styles are so different, yet complement each other in tone.
