The Rundown: Stein and Lorraine look for a way to help Ronnie.

In the wake of everything Firestorm has done, he has closed himself off from the rest of the world sitting on a throne in a fortress built with his own power. Outside the fortress, Professor Stein tells Lorraine that there might be a way to remove Ronnie from the matrix and stop whatever Firestorm is doing.

At the same time, Ronnie is reliving moments from his past as he is pushed deeper into his subconscious. He is reliving the moment that the Justice League asked him to become a member and a fight against Eclipso that Lorraine as Flamebird will use to try to get through to him. A memory that might give Stein the time he needs to stop Firestorm once and for all.

The Story: Lemire crafts a dark, haunting and thoroughly engaging story in this issue. I love diving into the complicated history of this character and the even more complicated history between Ronnie and Stein after the revelations made in the last issue. I love the callback to previous adventures and how those distractions keep Ronnie from seeing what’s happening to him. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens now that Stein has returned and what that means for the character.

The Art: De Latorre crafts some brilliant art throughout this issue. I love the visual contrast between Ronnie’s memories and the real world. There is a wonderful classic comic book feel to the memories that is in stark contrast to the dark reality he cannot see.
