The Rundown: Three former sidekicks seek to make their way in the world without control.

For decades, Igor has been a loyal servant to the doctor and been at his side to help with his experiments. The only thing he has ever wanted in return is for the doctor to transfer his mind into a better body. Unfortunately, Doctor Frankenstein is only interested in his experiments. A reality that hits home for Igor when he gets some much needed advice.

After ransacking the doctor’s office, Igor decides to go out on his own with the doctor’s latest experiment and finds himself in a morgue where he is confronted by someone desperately trying to escape his own master. A master who is controlling him through his insatiable need for blood.

The Story: Dastmalchian and Kilpatrick craft a wholly unique and entertaining take on some of the most interesting characters in the history of monster stories. This first issue is both funny and earnest in equal measure as Igor simply wants what he was promised and is forced to contend with the ego of his master. I liked seeing the emotional shift in the character when he is given a glimpse of his own agency and I am interested in seeing how these characters eventually interact with each other given who they are and who they serve.

The Art: Piazzalunga crafts some beautifully atmospheric art throughout the issue. I love the visual style of this first issue and how the use of shadows enhances the tone and mood of a scene.
